John Muir's journey and writings are echoing in my mind today. His faith was shaped by Yosemite and God's creation. I long for time in the mountains. Here are 2 of my favorite quotes -
"No synonym for God is so perfect as Beauty. Whether as seen carving the lines of the mountains with glaciers, or gathering matter into stars, or planning the movements of water, or gardening - still all is Beauty!"

"In God's wildness lies the hope of the world - the great fresh unblighted, unredeemed wilderness. The galling harness of civilization drops off, and wounds heal ere we are aware."

Blessings in your last days of your sabbatical.

Cynthiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05480835488807181681noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3214150098874467328.post-19814727383587533252013-08-09T13:29:15.119-07:002013-08-09T13:29:15.119-07:00Happy birthday Jamie - belated!Happy birthday Jamie - belated!Kent Groffhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01253884679878282396noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3214150098874467328.post-11673575559372366832013-08-09T13:25:48.221-07:002013-08-09T13:25:48.221-07:00You question: What if we engaged the world rather ...You question: What if we engaged the world rather than dismiss it? We were there for part of the Fringe Festival and I share many of your "What ifs..." as St. Giles seemed like a dark rock on the hill in midst of God's colorful and creative living water. Then one weekend a few families in the church stayed there, including the Associate Pastor and his family.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3214150098874467328.post-3025509563494915912013-07-09T16:00:02.640-07:002013-07-09T16:00:02.640-07:00"I have a hunch that one reason why some peop..."I have a hunch that one reason why some people shy away from jazz is that they are afraid of joy. They are fearful that it might affect them, that it might demand more attention than they planned to give it, that it might free them from the fundamentalism of the printed page, that it might raise them from the dead." Amen. I will be thinking about these insights for quite a while. Continued blessings on your journey. I'm not sure when the term "burn-out" came into our vocabulary, but not soon enough to prevent many faithful church workers (pastors, educators, musicians, et al)from growing too weary to be effective servants.

Good for you to take this time (and give this time, too); good for your church to give you a break (and be willing to take a break from you!). And thanks be to God for the strong stewardship known as the Lilly Endowment. Go in peace, Bill...but GO! Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
